UNION GROVE, WI. - The 2008 Relay for
Life marked the 10th anniversary of the fundraiser in Union
Grove, WI. The event was held on May 30th & 31st at Union
Grove Union High School. The event was kicked off with a
"Survivor Lap" in which cancer suvivors were the
first to take to the track. Also included in the event was
a special ceremony to commemorate loved ones who had been
lost to cancer; for a small donation to the Relay for Life,
a luminary was lit in their honor.
Over the past decade Community State
Bank has been a proud sponsor and participant in this event.
This year the Relay raised over $50,000 for the American
Cancer Society. This surpassed the 2008 goal amount by $10,000.
Through a series of fundraising events and pledges, Community
State Bank employees were able to contribute over $5,000
to this year’s total.
What is Relay for Life?
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed
to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research
and programs of your American Cancer Society. During the
event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds,
or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team
tries to keep at least one team member on the track at
all times.
